It was a dark and stormy night. Along the driveway, trees lashed out at us in windblown fury, while just ahead the Endicott mansion glowed out of the darkness like a bad omen. I didn't like it. I didn't like it at all –– the whole thing gave me a weird feeling. And on that particular October night in 1921, the last place on earth I wanted to be was there on the Endicott estate, dressed up for a costume party and looking for a murderer.
